Walking

Barks overlooks the Churnet Valley, at the southern end of the Peak District, an area renowned as unspoilt walking country. There are walks from the doorstep, short and long, that are truly wonderful. Nearby in the Peak Park there are more famous, and more well-trodden, walks.

We do our best to help walkers make the most of the beautiful Churnet Valley. There are suitable walks for all ages and abilities accessed from Barks holiday cottage. We have collected a good range of published walks in the area - and there are many.

At all times of year there are walks that are simply good for the heart and the soul.

The picture on the left is of Dimmingsdale.  A lovely destination for a walk from the cottage, just nip down the road in the car for an easy stroll in beautfiul surroundings.  Choose the length of walk that suits you.

Ideal for children to walk or cycle, and dabble in streams.  There are treats aplenty in the lovely tea rooms and restaurant, The Ramblers Retreat.

For more serious hikers, there are hearty walks around the beautiful Churnet Valley and the Ramblers Retreat is handy as a start or midway point.

The Staffordshire Way long distance footpath goes through Dimmingsdale.
